Yet again, Steve Macdonald of Beyond Adventure came through and got a BCU 4* Open Canoe Assessment set up while I was over. Claire Knifton and Giles Trussell were our assessors, and I attempted the award with Lou, from Glasgow. Day 1 was leadership- we took a group of local youth slalom paddlers for a first open canoe trip. They were great fun! Highly skilled, easily bored, a group that needed no coaching (they could have taught me a thing or two!) but needed constant entertainment.
Our highly skilled, short attention spanned guinea pigs.
Claire setting herself up below Chinese Bridge.
Two of the boys talking strategy before dropping in.
Lining up for the wave train at the bottom.
Collecting water, broadside.
Cross deck!
Heading upstream to try and catch the wave.
Got it!
Burying the bow.
Rescues on Day 2. Stuck on something.
Setting up advantage systems.
Claire checking out fraying end ties.
